Venue Focus...Somerley House, England
Just before Christmas (yes it's already been that long!) I visited Hampshire/Dorset wedding venue, Somerley House. A beautiful, private estate on the edge of the New Forest. It's one that I had to share with EC brides and grooms-to-be, and here's why...
The first thing I noticed about Somerley House is the feeling of exclusivity you get as soon as you're within the grounds. The impressive house sits within a 7,000 acre privately owned estate meaning there will be no unwanted guests or passers by during your celebrations.
The grounds are vast, with pretty countryside views in all directions so this is an idyllic tranquil location for an exclusive event.
The great thing about this venue is the many options available to you. It's entirely up to you (and your budget!) whether you hire the house and the gardens (perfect for all weather options) or just the house (if you love traditional decor) or just the gardens (for a marquee wedding with a very impressive backdrop), so there's something to suit all styles.
Added to that, there's a historic walled garden which can be used for marquee weddings, and a woodland wedding space coming soon.
Large, historic properties can sometimes feel a little cold, but that isn't the case with Somerley House. The main building is lived in by Viscount and Viscountess Somerton, and so there's definitely a homely feeling throughout the house.
Added to that, the staff are both helpful and flexible so are willing to accommodate your requests wherever possible.
